Job description

JOB SUMMARY: The Lab Technician performs serological, bacteriological, biochemical, hematological, and microbiological tests for disease diagnosis and treatment. This role involves working in an office environment, managing medical laboratory tasks, and providing customer care services.


Clinical Laboratory Testing:

  • Perform tests in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, toxicology, and immunology.
  • Conduct microbiology culture identification and sensitivity testing.
  • Make observations and interpret findings.
  • Provide accurate and reliable laboratory results.
  • Substitute for Senior Laboratory Technician during vacations and absences.

B. Administrative Tasks:

  • Organize work by matching work orders with specimen labeling and sorting specimens.
  • Log specimens and arrange reports for delivery.
  • Keep work surfaces clean and orderly.
  • Organize and store testing equipment and supplies safely.
  • Record data and results accurately in specified formats (paper and electronic).
  • Dispose of biohazardous materials according to health and safety regulations.
  • Clean and maintain glassware and microscope slides.
  • Maintain organized storage of laboratory supplies.
  • Work with Senior Lab Technician to verify and sign lab reports.
  • Ensure timely maintenance of laboratory equipment and update schedules.

C. General Duties:

  • Follow company directions and health and safety standards.
  • Keep up to date on job knowledge through educational opportunities and professional publications.
  • Enhance the testing department's reputation by accepting ownership of tasks and exploring new opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively with Senior Lab Technician and General Manager.
  • Make justified recommendations to the Senior Lab Technician.
  • Respond promptly to requests from Senior Lab Technician and General Manager.
  • Adhere to all quality control measures and protocols.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Perform other related duties to support the company’s goals and objectives.

Job requirements

  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology
  • Certificate in Phlebotomy (optional) 
  • Certificate in Chemistry (optional)  
  • Minimum 2-5 years’ work experience in a similar or related position
  • Minimum 1-3 years’ work experience in laboratory operations
  • Proficiency in office software systems
  • Excellent Time Management Skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Good team working skills
  • Oral and Written Communications Skills
  • Inventory Skills
